Chester County Planning Commission identity, brand guidelines, and public-sector branding

Chester County Planning Commission

Challenge

Government agencies don’t always think of themselves as brands, but they should. The Chester County Planning Commission (CCPC) serves one of Pennsylvania’s fastest-growing counties, shaping decisions around land use, transportation, housing, and community development. With decades of important work behind them and a sweeping new, comprehensive plan called Landscapes3 on the horizon, the CCPC knew it was time for their visual identity to reflect the significance of what they do. Their existing logo felt dated, and without a clear brand system, their in-house team struggled to apply it consistently across communications.

Solution

Open Haus developed a refreshed logo and a distinct identity mark for Landscapes3, the commission’s long-range planning initiative for sustainable growth across Chester County. Both marks were built to be flexible and enduring, reflecting the region’s character and the forward-thinking nature of the work. Knowing that our role was to equip their internal team (not replace it), we designed an extensive brand guidelines booklet that gave staff the tools, rules, and visual standards to apply the brand consistently across every channel, from reports and signage to digital communications and public outreach.

Result

The CCPC now has a visual identity that reflects the credibility and community trust their work has earned. Their in-house team operates with confidence and consistency, armed with a clear system that ensures every public-facing communication reinforces the brand. The Landscapes3 mark became the organizing visual identity for one of the region’s most significant planning initiatives.
