Shuman Farms / RealSweet Vidalia Onions
Challenge
Produce marketing is, by tradition, an afterthought: a sticker on an onion, a generic crate card. Shuman Farms, a multi-generational family operation from Georgia and one of the country’s most respected growers of premium sweet onions, had far more to offer than that. Their RealSweet brand was competing on crowded specialty retail shelves and at major trade shows against players with no particular story to tell.
Solution
Open Haus developed a fresh creative direction for the Shuman brand that leaned into its most powerful differentiators: family, heritage, and provenance. We led with bold, appetite-inducing photography and paired it with textured, tactile design that evoked soil, craft, and American farm country. The system spanned brochures, in-store signage and displays, packaging, event graphics, and trade materials, including custom infographics that communicated RealSweet Peruvian sweet onions’ economic impact (more than 440,000 jobs in the Southeast U.S.), giving Shuman a compelling trade story to tell alongside their product.
Result
The Shuman brand emerged with a clearer, more confident identity, elevating the RealSweet name from a commodity to a premium brand. Trade partners had better materials, retail displays told a richer story, and the brand’s heritage became a genuine competitive advantage rather than a background detail.
